Empowerment and Recovery Through Creativity!

PSA Art Awakenings is a psycho social rehabilitation program for adults and youth who are challenged by serious behavioral health issues and mental illnesses. Studios throughout Arizona offer therapeutic programs in a supportive setting to promote mental health, personal growth, vocational training, and physical wellness through the performing and visual arts. Downtown Phoenix, Casa Grande and Tucson Galleries, art exhibits, First Friday and other venues offer artists opportunities to sell their paintings, sculptures, mosaics, jewelry, fine art, music, poetry, and writings to benefit from art sales.

Studios

PSA Art Awakenings Studios are known as the places where the magic happens! Studios are located in Bisbee, Casa Grande, Douglas, NW Phoenix (formerly Glendale), Tempe, Tucson, Yuma, Parker-Quartzsite, and in downtown Phoenix on 2nd St. and at the Warehouse 1005 also in downtown Phoenix. Additional youth services are provided in Glendale and in Maryvale at Las Artes de Maricopa. Click on your Studio of choice for location directions and the program calendar.

With multiple locations throughout Cochise, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, La Paz and Yuma Counties in Arizona, artists are provided with the tools to help them focus and regain control of their health and well-being and experience the healing power of creativity. Services provided for adults are primarily psycho-social rehabilitation with supportive counseling for individuals, groups, and families as well as case management. Services for children include expressive art therapy and case management as needed.

Studios offer a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment for adults and children to foster exploration and development of artistic skills. Instruction in visual art, poetry, storytelling, music, movement, and drama in addition to pre-job training and education are offered. Participants learn respect for self and others, personal accountability, and take pride in accomplishments while developing enhanced self-esteem and wellness management skills. Artists readily admit that creating art helps reduce stress and the intensity of their psychiatric symptoms.

Artists have access to expressive art therapists, peer support, and one-on-one counseling that is paired with art instruction and classes to help them explore feelings and process issues through the arts.

The PSA Art Awakenings journey in recovery for adults includes three levels of its “Transformational Model”:
ART 101: Entry to Hope
ART 201: Intermediate to Empowerment
ART 301: Advanced to Self-Sufficiency
Each level addresses personal and professional development that guides each artist on their road to recovery.

PSA Art Awakenings Studios provide therapeutic art groups that use visual arts, poetry, music, storytelling, movement, and drama to enhance self-esteem and wellness management skills while promoting community integration. The studios offer pre-job training and education with participants gaining self-awareness and professional skills by creating artwork for exhibit and sale.
